Kiddo bookbinded her gift for friend's birthday

There you go, never mind with some flaws and imperfections, as long as it comes with big heart.

Kiddo first coptic stitch book, after she had done with japanese stab binding.

She watched me did my countless coptic stitch and she was moved to start one.

It's friend's birthday coming so she decided to give away something special.

Yes, it's perfectly a handmade book.

She did one, then continue with another one......kept it as gift to give away to friend in future.

Thread: embroidery thread. Fabric: my left over canvas from sewing a bag. 

Japanese stab binding on upcycled paper

Got these batch of blue paper cardboards some time ago.
And found these computer paper in a clean recycled bin.
So here i run a yellow star binding again.
My ultimate aim in bookbinding: to reuse whatever available resources and give paper a second life.

Mini book

Kiddo has some left over paper and i was thinking of what i can do with it.
The thought of using fabric as the cover has been cultivating long time ago. So perhaps this was the right time to germinate the idea of fabric cover.
Still, going on with coptic stitch.

Special bookbinding gift to a group of teenagers

Literally spent almost like 'satu hari satu malam' (one day and one night) just to get one book done from scratch.
From paper cutting, cover cutting, measuring, sticking, to final sewing.
I have a target of 10 books to complete. It cant be 9 or 8, it should be a perfect 10, otherwise i will be deemed unfair.
With some on french stitch and mostly on coptic stitch, and I was using mostly leftover wallpaper that was supposed to be junk in the dustbin. The inner papers were leftover printed paper from my neighbour who run  a printing company.
My main aim was to fully utilize whatever resources that i could get from the recycled bin and upcycle them to give them a second life.
From end paper to inner paper and cardboard, they were supposed to end up in recycling bin.
Finally.....and finally, my babies were borned:

Top middle cover was using curtain fabric. Damn difficult to stick and i am still learning how to do it well on fabric, particularly curtain fabric.

Mini workshop for kids

It came as a an unexpected mini workshop for a group of 11 yrs old.
We did japanese stab binding (chevron pattern) on hard cover.
Combination of japanese paper, indian paper and local gift wrapper as the front cover.
Phoebe fine tuned many steps in sewing and stitching.
It took nearly 3 hours to complete but when you see tired and happy faces that beamed with contentment, everything has turned out to be worthwhile.

Days before the class, i had a dream about bookbinding.
Strange but true to life.
Something that i really looked forward to.

It was coarsely done as i was just started out.
LIttle girl purposely tie the pinkish ribbon this way and it created a wonderful surprise

Greatest lie and highest wisdom

Reading this from The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho:
“Everyone believes the world's greatest lie..." says the mysterious old man.

"What is the world's greatest lie?" the little boy asks.

The old man replies, "It's this: that at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That's the world's greatest lie.”

Whilst my conviction will be:

The greatest lie within a lie is that we thought we are controlled by fate, and the fate has been changed every moment by our present moment's action. The greatest realization didnt come to prove one is a fool, but to make a fool become wiser.
